Drone Registration Number Decals in Canada

What the official source says

Under Canadian Aviation Regulations Part IX — Remotely Piloted Aircraft, all drones 250g–25kg generally display a registration number, legible from 30cm, on the aircraft.

Where to read the exact wording

Read Transport Canada’s registering your drone page for the official wording. Before ordering, confirm the current requirement with Transport Canada Civil Aviation. Bring your aircraft details and the registration number you intend to display so you can ask about your particular situation.

Keep that confirmation separate from your purchasing decision. A decal listing helps you choose an identification product; it does not replace an answer from the authority. Once you have confirmed the details, use them to prepare your order. Check the number carefully against your registration information, including every letter and digit, before submitting it for production.

Questions to bring to the authority

• Does the registration marking requirement apply to my particular aircraft and use?
• Which registration number should I display on this aircraft?
• How should I check that the number is legible from 30cm?
• What marking details should I confirm before ordering a decal?
• Is there anything about my aircraft that I should explain before choosing the lettering?
• Where can I read the current wording relevant to my situation?

What businesses commonly order and why

Businesses commonly order number and lettering decals for clear identification and a tidy presentation. A carefully prepared order can help you reproduce the intended text consistently and avoid a preventable typing error. If you manage several aircraft, prepare a separate entry for each one so the numbers stay associated with the correct aircraft throughout ordering and installation.
